There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is. - Albert Einstein |
Born in Toledo, Ohio, 1958, Carol was hooked on art and nature before she left elementary school. Being chosen to illustrate her first-grade class calendar was heady stuff, and a summer program at Oak Openings Park taught her the life cycle of a forest, along with the thrill of holding a real, live snake.
Through her father's work, Carol's family was transferred overseas, spending a year each in The Hague and London, visiting art museums all over Europe. The Old Masters made their impression, even on a Batman-obsessed 3rd grader.
Carol and family returned to Sylvania, Ohio, then moved to the rural Bowling Green area when she entered junior high. Carol continued to draw and loved to explore the neighboring lake and woods. One more family move to Texas in 1975, and subsequent degrees in Art Education and English, led to a teaching job before Carol made a switch to commercial art.
For over 20 years, Carol worked for corporate and non-profit organizations as a graphic artist, desktop publisher, and proofreader. She began painting pet portraits full-time in 2000. Having completed almost 1,000 custom portraits, Carol now divides her time between custom portraits, original art, and writing. She finds inspiration in her own backyard and at local, state, and national parks. Her wildlife and botanical illustrations can be seen on signage along the Cypress Swamp Trails at Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens. To see more of Carol's artwork, please visit www.carolwells.com.
